Luke (in physical) and Native American Spirits

Sarah/Spirits:    We are the Native American spirits who talked some time ago. Do you remember our conversation?

Luke:                 Yeah.

Spirit:                We wish to report to you on our progress, because we are so happy that we got to talk that night. Things have improved for us so much, we can barely contain our joy. We find ourselves caught up in the rhythm of this land, and we can feel the spirit-earth move under our feet. We move with great rapidity from plane to plane. We find ourselves browsing through immense sections of greenery and forest, and meeting wonderful tribes which we had no idea existed. We are so happy to have found you, our brother and our sister.

                           We feel a great longing that you should live with us here, but we know that this isn’t possible for you at this time. However, we are so glad to have to talked you, and that you taught us your way that you have of moving through time.

                           By time, we mean that we had no idea that so much could be accomplished in so little time. We feel that you have shown us a way that will enable us to practice our spirituality in a much more effective way. We have become so blessed, and so rich in love. We finally understand each other. It is as though we were talking different languages. But we now have unified.

                           We are so proud to be a part of this movement, and so happy to share it with others.

Luke:                 Have you been able to communicate with your medium?

Spirit:                Yes. However, she feels that we are no longer comfortable to talk with, and we are fine with this transaction. We recognize that our tie to her was based in a desire to spend more time on earth. However, our earth is this earth. Our earth is the planet that we are now on. It sometimes feels like a different world, but we know that it is the spirit of this land that we love, and not that of the earth plane.

Luke:                 It is very nice to hear from you.

Spirit:                Thank you. If you come to us we will show you many things. We will show you what we have learned and what we have made. Your books that you are reading are accurate in some respects, the books about Alvin Maker. (Tales of Alvin Maker, fantasy novels by Orson Scott Card.) They are very accurate. We have never called it the “greensong,” but we understand this way of getting caught up and moving through the earth, because we know it now. We did not know it on earth. We were skilled, but we were not skilled in the way that we are now.

(In Card’s books, the Native Americans live in harmony with nature, and travel effortlessly through the woods, by moving in harmony with the “greensong” the rhythm created by the earth and plants)

                           We feel such a desire that you should come and live with us. We say to you that you are truly a brother and a friend. You are truly a part of our tribe, no matter where you are.

Luke: (crying)

                           We have been feeling a bit discouraged lately.

Spirit:                It is easy to feel discouraged when you are separate from your home. You are away from your tribe. For this we have sympathy for you.

                           We do not know what it’s like to be you, because our condition is as yet not so developed, nor do we have the ties that you have… your ties to your tribe are different from the ties we have to ours, the ties we have to our tribe.

Luke:                 I find encouraging to have been able to help you, and to hear from you again.

Spirit:                It is a pleasure.

(pause in conversation)

(starting again)   We do not want to kill animals.

Luke:                 Did you feel like killing animals before?

Spirit:                Not in the spirit world. But we wondered why this very important element of our lives so suddenly felt distasteful. We thought it was our fault. However, we now see that our desire to kill animals on earth had to do with a desire to incorporate them into our lives, and this can be done so much better and so much more easily.

                           It is easy sometimes for those conceptualizing the spirit world to have a picture of the spirit world as a Disney cartoon—where animals come to you and exhibit human characteristics—but they do not, not here. There may be places in the spirit world like that, but they do not do that here. They are still very much animals. They exist for their own purposes. We love them as our friends and our sisters and our brothers, but they have their own ways. They are beautiful and rare things to us, but they are not like us.

(pause)                We wish we could give you a present. But there is nothing we can give you except our love.

Luke:                 That is a good enough present for me, and  to hear from you.

Spirit:                We are proud, though, of the things that we make now. We make beautiful houses – we make strong, good houses, and good, beautiful clothing; we make good friendships; we make beautiful landscapes; we make things now, we are a making tribe.

Luke:                 Have you met many spirits from the Celestial world?

Spirit:                Yes, there are many who come and visit us here. They travel quite some way to get here. But they are here with us. We cannot travel to see them because our ways of voyaging are not yet as advanced. Do you understand what we mean?

Luke:                 Mm-hmm.

Spirit:                It is not difficult though, because whenever we wish to speak to them, they come. We do not long to see them and are unable to make the voyage. They simply come to us when we desire it.

Luke:                 I’m glad you are learning so much and so fast.

Spirit:                It is a good life – it is a good, rich life that we have.

Luke:                 How do you see your old life now?

Spirit:                It is like living only able to see one or two colors. It is the same, but the meaning is lost in it. The meaning is lost, as to the full scope and possibility of life. We now live in many more dimensions. We are fuller humans, we are fuller souls, we are fuller in love. Things change, things are dropped out of our vocabulary with one another. Things change as we change, but more than anything it is being able to see a picture that was once flat, through all sides. It is a wholeness.

(pauses to think)

                           I had forgotten much of my life. My name was Kicking-horse. I am known to those on earth still. They would do well to forget me, for on earth I was not as I am now.

Luke:                 There are still legends about you?

Kicking-horse: There are. You will be interested, perhaps, in seeing these legends. And seeing the difference in myself and my tribe.

Luke:                 And the spirit, White Eagle?

Kicking-horse:  I am not. I am part of that tribe. We are two different speakers, he and I. We forget sometimes that we may need to re-introduce ourselves. You can feel the shift. You can feel in the tone of my spirit that I am not the same as White Eagle Feather, and that I am of a different condition. We were not of the same tribe on earth. It is hard for me not to be chief. However, instead of fighting, we now talk about it. It is a strange way. (laughs)

                           I also, because I am still learning, have difficulty speaking not in my own tongue. But, I find that as I get older in this path, I learn more easily. Why do you tremble so?

Luke: (had been crying, now shaking)          

Oh, I’m processing some emotion, perhaps fear.

Kicking-horse: (knowingly) Ah, I have done this.

Luke:                 I’m excited as well.

Kicking-horse:  I understand. It was not the way that I was taught, but I have felt many “feelings.”

Luke:                 Not very many groups of people on earth teach their young people to feel their feelings, and express emotions.

(pause)

New spirit:        My name is Soul-who-is-born.

Luke:                 Hello.

Soul-who-is-born:      I changed my name, when I came to this tribe. I am the wife, the spirit-wife… the soul-mate, of Kicking-horse. It is good to meet you. I have heard much about you. I was not in the tribe when you had your first conversation.

                           (observantly) You love your wife.

                           (waits a moment) Do you not?

Luke:                 Yes. (laughs)

Soul-who-is-born:      I am telling Kicking-horse he should learn from you.

                           He has trouble that I am “upper” then him. He does not want to learn from a women.

You understand?

                           (jokingly) It is too bad for him.

                           (getting excited) It is different in your way. It is different because the men cannot… fight… so much. It is very good to know that there is a different way. I cannot imagine how we did it any other way, when we were a tribe on earth.

(pause)

                           You should tell your wife that you love her.

Luke: (laughs)   I will.

Soul-who-is-born:  (thoughtfully) I would like Kicking-horse to tell me that he loves me. But he thinks it is… “not manly.” He feels sometimes, and gets embarrassed.

Luke:                 I think he will come around.

Soul-who-is-born:      He is glad that I talk about this with you, because he knows that it is a problem for him. (surprised) He is humble! The men are humble! It is so good.

                           We women talk, very much, about these issues. We talk in a group, we have a council. It is less like a council, now, it is more … a group of friends that talk. And it is very light. It is relaxing to be in that group. The men too talk. And we talk together. It is so different, the structure. It is very different from anything.

Luke:                 Do you find things are changing?

Soul-who-is-born:      The lands we enter change. That is surprising. I remember the last of my “migrations” you may call them, it is not the word we use but it is … right. When I was on earth, we would move from season to season. And towards the end of my life it was awful, because each land looked worse and worse. Just infested with destruction.

It was sad, very sad. It made the men very angry, and it made the women very sad. But here, it is the opposite. It is unbelievably beautiful each place we go, with each move of the seasons. The seasons are different. It seems to occur that the seasons change when we change. It is very good. It is a good, long summer, and each land is more beautiful.

We travel… we sleep at night and travel without even meaning to! We just go, as a group. We are of one mind and one heart, it is very good.

Luke:                 It is so nice to talk to you and meet you.

Soul-who-is-born:      It is a pleasure for us. Would you like to talk to speak with anyone else in our band?

Luke:                 If there is anyone who would like…

Soul-who-is-born:      I will ask…

                           White Eagle would like to speak with you.

Luke:                 How are you?

White Eagle:     I am good, how are you?

Luke:                 Good. It is encouraging to speak to you guys.

White Eagle:     We are glad to talk to you. We have for you things we would like to give you when you pass.

Luke:                 I’ve shared our conversation with friends, and they are also encouraged.

White Eagle:     If you like to speak with us, you may like to speak with the men and women of Vancouver. It is just a thought. There are Haida in Vancouver. They live in the ways that we lived, and they feel as we feel. They are not able to travel through the lands as we are. There may be some who wish to do this, and we can help through dreams. It is slow, but, should you get the chance, it may be something you and your wife would enjoy. You and your …. it is not the right word, “wife”, is it?

Luke:                 It is close enough.

White Eagle.     (coughs) Well, we offer you peace, and we love you. Bye our friend.

Luke:                 Good bye.
